Greg Smith: Leicestershire take Nottinghamshire batsman on loan

Greg Smith scored 3,309 Championship runs in 69 matches for Leicestershire, at an average of 27.12

Nottinghamshire batsman Greg Smith is to return to Leicestershire on a two-match County Championship loan.

Smith, 26, who only moved to Trent Bridge last autumn from his native county, has played just three Championship matches for Notts this summer, making 60 runs in six innings.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell is looking for him to get more first-team chances back at Grace Road.

He will play in the home game against Kent, starting on Sunday, 5 July.

The Leicester-born right-hander is also scheduled to play in the four-day fixture against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College, starting on 15 July.

Smith, who hit 20 runs from 11 balls in Notts' Twenty20 home defeat by Worcestershire on Friday night, will remain available for his parent club in limited-overs cricket.

"Greg hasn't featured in our four-day side recently," said Newell. "First team cricket will be much better preparation for when we do need him.

"He's put in some good one-day performances in the first and second team. We're keen for him to be in good nick in all forms of the game."
