South Africa debutant Kagiso Rabada claimed a hat-trick in only his second over in a one-day international as the Proteas beat Bangladesh in Mirpur.

The 20-year-old Johannesburg-born fast bowler also recorded the best debut figures, external in an ODI with 6-16.

Rabada, who has four Twenty20 international caps, beat the previous best of 6-22 by Fidel Edwards in 2003.

Last year, Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was the first debutant to take an ODI hat-trick, also at Mirpur.

In a match reduced to 40 overs per side because of rain, Bangladesh chose to bat first but were all out for 160 in the 37th over, Shakib Al Hasan making 48 as only four batsmen reached double figures.

South Africa's Faf du Plessis and Rilee Roussow shared an unbroken stand of 99 in 18 overs as their team won by eight wickets with 53 balls remaining to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
