Michael Clarke wicket caps Will Davis's Derbyshire debut

Young Derbyshire pace bowler Will Davis had a debut to remember after making Australia captain Michael Clarke his maiden first-class wicket.

Davis had Clarke caught at slip by Tom Knight for 16 on the first day of Australia's three-day match at Derby.

"I said at the start of the day that Clarke would be a nice one to have first up so I was quite happy when it went to hand," he told BBC Radio Derby.

The 19-year-old also removed Adam Voges and Peter Nevill to end with 3-63.

Australia closed day one on 413-9 as they warm up for the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston, which begins on Wednesday.

Davis continued: "It has been an unbelievable experience so far and I've enjoyed every minute."

The dismissal of Clarke sparked a superb spell of pace bowling as the England Under-19 international trapped former Nottinghamshire batsman Voges lbw in his next over.

He later returned to remove wicketkeeper Nevill, caught by Scott Elstone.

"Getting the first wicket under my belt gave me a bit more confidence just to run in and hit my areas," Davis added.

"The gaffer said at the start of the day it's an experience you will never forget and I definitely won't."

Meanwhile, Derbyshire have extended their commitment to the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket for the next five years.

The county will play at least six days of cricket at Queen's Park each year until 2020.
