Guernsey captain Jamie Nussbaumer has descried his side's five-wicket win over rivals Jersey as 'incredible'.

Having bowled out Jersey for 157 in 45.4 overs, Guernsey made their target with just over two overs to spare.

"It's incredible," Nussbaumer told BBC Guernsey. "I've been waiting for this moment all my life really.

"My dream was to one day be Guernsey captain and lift the trophy and to do it with this group of boys is pretty emotional and I couldn't be happier."

Guernsey had lost the last three inter-insulars as well losing to Jersey as they made the global World Twenty20 qualifiers and the World Cricket League in Malaysia.

Peter Gough hit 53 for Jersey as they struggled to 157 all out at Port Soif, with former Leicestershire player Nick Ferraby making 22 on his Jersey debut as David Hooper and Will Fazakerley each took two wickets.

In reply, man of the match Matt Stokes scored 86, while Ollie Newey scored 28 as the Sarnians made their target with 2.1 overs to spare.

"We spoke about how far this team has come since Malaysia when we reached our bottom ebb," said Nussbaumer.

"It's been a long hard two and a half years - we started with a young group, slowly built up and had a few knocks along the way.

"But this season we really felt could be our season."

The game was only Jersey's second 50-over match this season after their Twenty20 exploits.

"We didn't bat well enough to deserve to win the game," said Jersey coach Neil MacRae.

"A lot of credit to Guernsey, they bowled very straight and scrapped for every run in the field.

"We haven't played a lot of 50-over cricket because of our T20 successes and that was a factor in the way we batted.

"But we knew we were coming away from home and we didn't adjust well enough to the surface."
