County Championship: Rob Key and Joe Denly stand boosts Kent

Kent batsman Joe Denly passed 8,000 first-class career runs

Rob Key and Joe Denly shared Kent's highest stand in the Championship this season to set Glamorgan a huge target on day three in Cardiff.

Key and Denly combined to add 222 for the visitors before Graham Wagg finally removed Key for 158.

Denly went on to reach an unbeaten 161, which included 21 fours, as Kent declared on 451-2 with a lead of 553.

Matt Coles took two wickets before bad light halted play with Glamorgan 101-2 and James Kettleborough on 52 not out.

Resuming on 256-1, Key and Denly added another 80 runs before their partnership came to an end when Kettleborough caught the former on the square leg boundary.

But Denly pressed on, passing 1,000 County Championship runs in 2015, to add another 115 runs with Sam Northeast (50), leading to their eventual declaration on 451-2.

Coles reduced Glamorgan to 23-2 by removing Jeremy Lawlor and David Lloyd, taking him to 98 wickets in all competitions this summer, but Kettleborough and Colin Ingram (42 not out) steadied the hosts before the close with an unbroken stand of 78.

Glamorgan captain Mark Wallace told BBC Wales Sport:

"We're behind the eight-ball as we have been for most of the game. We caught a bit of a break with bad light helping us out in the last session so we've got eight wickets to bat it out.

"It's still a good pitch as Kent's batsmen showed and our batsmen showed at the start of our second innings, so we're very capable of batting out for a draw."
