Colin Ingram: Glamorgan batsman targets red-ball return after knee surgery

Ingram made 40 international limited-overs appearances for South Africa

Glamorgan batsman Colin Ingram is to undergo knee surgery in his native South Africa on 26 August.

The 31-year-old has starred in the county's 2016 limited-overs campaigns, but has not played County Championship cricket because of the injury problem.

Ingram is hoping to resume playing red-ball cricket in both the UK and South Africa after the operation.

"I'm fortunate I've been able to play week-in, week-out, and I pride myself on my endurance," he said.

"I enjoy a long cycle on my off-days and the workload doesn't bother me, it's just making sure I get the best out of my body."

Ingram. who plays for Glamorgan as a non-overseas player under the Kolpak ruling, has targeted a November return for his South African side, Warriors.

He scored 502 runs in the 2016 T20 Blast season, hitting a record-equalling 29 sixes, and also topped Glamorgan's One-Day Cup averages with 367 runs at 61.1.

Ingram underlined his value by taking 15 wickets with his leg-spin across the two tournaments, including a career-best 4-32 in Glamorgan's T20 quarter-final defeat by Yorkshire.

"It's been a strange old season, pitching up on the first day and getting an injury, then not really expecting to play.

"But I wanted to improve on my T20 stats from last season, in that way I'm really chuffed, but a pity I couldn't put a few more on the board [against Yorkshire]."

Glamorgan have six remaining Championship matches in 2016.
