Jersey beat rivals Guernsey to regain cricket inter-insular trophy

Jersey took early wickets in windy conditions at Grainville

Jersey got their hands back on the inter-insular trophy with a 49-run win over rivals Guernsey at Grainville.

Put into bat first after losing the toss, Jersey skipper Peter Gough made 95 before being run out, in a total of 206 all out.

Guernsey lost early wickets in reply, struggling to 22-4, but wicketkeeper Jason Martin (64) steadied the ship.

Three wickets apiece from Ben Stevens and Anthony Hawkins-Kay, though, helped dismiss the visitors for 157.

Reaction

Peter Gough, Jersey captain, on BBC Radio Jersey: "It was actually a tough game, we got into a good position with the bat but then lost a couple of wickets.

"We know we can defend 206, we knew it was a bit less than what we wanted, but I'm so pleased with how we did in the field.

"I can't explain how gutted I was for the 10 minutes after [getting run out for 95], it was a massive opportunity to get a hundred in an inter-insular but it's a team game so it was 10 minutes of being a stroppy little kid and then out with the boys."
