Hampshire's Jimmy Adams hit an unbeaten 132 as they seized the initiative against Yorkshire on day two.
Resuming on 315-7, the White Rose lost Tim Bresnan and Steven Patterson early on as they finished on 350.
Hampshire started slowly, with Joe Weatherley and captain James Vince falling cheaply to Jack Brooks (2-63).
But Adams shared an unbroken 170-run fourth-wicket stand with Tom Alsop (62*) as Hampshire closed on 245-3, to move to within 107 runs of Yorkshire.
Replying to Yorkshire's first innings total, after a 54-run second-wicket stand, Hampshire swiftly slumped to 68-3.
Vince, who hit a fine 147 when Hampshire last played Yorkshire in a first-class match in April 2017, was bowled by Brooks before Patterson then knocked out Sam Northeast's middle stump.
Adams led the hosts' response to two quickfire Yorkshire wickets alongside Alsop, reaching his century off 182 balls, hitting 17 fours.
Hampshire centurion Jimmy Adams:
"They bowled with great discipline and we had to try and bat with the same amount. Scoring was pretty tricky but we are delighted to get through that three down.
"After the wickets I would be lying if things weren't running through my head. If the new batsman gets one early, then wickets can fall in clusters. But Tommy set about his stall well and we knew the ball wasn't doing as much.
"It has been a battle at times for me this year. I was wondering whether my coordination had gone. But you find a way to get through it.
"Dale has been just outstanding. He bowled 29 overs and it was proper fast bowling. Throughout with the new and the old ball he was still making things happen. I am happy he is on our team and not someone else's."
Yorkshire captain Steven Patterson:
"It's been a tough day. You're always a bit unsure how these pink ball games are going to go.
"We felt 350, from where we were, was quite a good total. It was definitely something we could go out and attack with.
"We started well with the ball. They were 68-3 and we were really positive and thought we could make real inroads.
"Then it just became difficult. The weather's good, the pitch is as well, and the ball just got soft. We felt we tried everything we could. We bowled a bit of spin, rotated the seamers to try and mixed it up a bit. "
