Opening batter Haseeb Hameed has been appointed Nottinghamshire captain.

The 26-year-old steps up from the role of vice-captain to replace Steven Mullaney, who has stepped down after six years in the role.

England international Hameed, who won the last of his 10 Test caps in January 2022, will lead the side in both the County Championship and One-Day Cup competitions.

Hameed started his career with Lancashire and joined Notts ahead of the 2020 season.

He went on to play a key role in getting the Trent Bridge side promoted back to the County Championship top flight as Division Two title winners in 2022.

Since arriving he has scored a total of 2,860 County Championship runs and 513 in the One-Day Cup for the club.
