Emilio Gay has signed for Durham on loan for the last two games of the County Championship season.

The batter will then complete his permanent move to the county from Northamptonshire on a three-year deal.

Gay, 24, will be available for the four-day matches away to Surrey on Tuesday and at home to Kent on 26 September.

He has scored 919 runs in Division Two this summer for Northants, with two hundreds.

Gay will take the place of captain Scott Borthwick, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an elbow injury.

Alex Lees will skipper the side, who sit fifth in Division One.
