Glamorgan have appointed Richard Dawson as interim head coach until the end of the season.

A former England off-spinner in his playing days at Yorkshire, Dawson joined the senior England coaching team as elite performance pathway coach in 2021 having been the head coach for England Lions' tour of Australia in 2020.

He was previously Gloucestershire's head coach for six years from 2015, leading them to One-Day Cup glory in his first season and taking them to the T20 Blast knockout stages four times.

Glamorgan had been looking for a new head coach after sacking Grant Bradburn in December following a charge of misconduct by the independent cricket regulator.

Dawson will lead the team in the County Championship and T20 Blast but his existing assistant coaching role with Welsh Fire in the Hundred means Glamorgan will announce a lead coach for the One-Day Cup "in the coming months".

"I'm delighted to be joining Glamorgan as head coach for the coming season. I've got a good idea of how the club works having spent time with Welsh Fire over the years," said Dawson.

"I'm looking forward to getting involved with the players and coaches at the club and building on the success achieved in the 50-over competition last season."

Dawson is currently part of the England Lions' coaching staff in Australia and will officially start his interim head coach role in March following completion of his duties at the Women's Premier League in India.

Mark Wallace, Glamorgan's director of cricket, said: "It's great news for the club that we have been able to appoint a coach of Richard Dawson's standing and quality as interim head coach until the end of the season.

"We were keen to move quickly and get someone in place for the 2025 season and we see Richard as the perfect fit to develop the squad and continue to move us forward this season."
