All-rounder Tom Lammonby took five wickets in an innings for the first time as Somerset boosted their chances of a place in the knockout stages of the One-Day Cup with a 90-run win over Sussex at Hove.

The visitors were bowled out for 243 despite half-centuries by Fin Hill and Josh Thomas, but Sussex's hopes were dashed when they slumped from 60-1 to 60-5 in the space of eight balls.

Lammonby took three wickets in an over and added two more to finish with 5-20 as the Sharks were all out for 153, with 14 overs of their innings unused.

Opener Ben Dawkins hit his maiden List A century for Kent in Thursday's other Group B match as they climbed off the bottom of the table with a seven-wicket win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks, having also been set a target of 244.

Only the top three from each group will progress - the group winners going straight through to the semi-finals, with second- and third-placed teams to meet in knockout games with last-four places at stake.

Lammonby sees off Sussex

Sussex made a superb start against Somerset with home openers Archie Vaughan and Lammonby falling to left-armer Sean Hunt for ducks.

They were 82-5 after Henry Crocombe removed the Rew brothers, James and Thomas, for 29 and 30 respectively, but Thomas hit 50 off 58 balls as he and Hill added 59 for the sixth wicket.

Thomas was caught behind off Hunt (3-35) but Hill (55) brought up his second successive 50, this one from 62 balls, and put on 67 with Kian Roberts (29) before Somerset were bowled out midway through the 48th over.

Tom Haines went early for Sussex, but they reached 60 before Lammonby had Charlie Tear caught at cover and won lbw decisions against Fynn Hudson-Prentice and John Simpson in the same over with inswinging deliveries.

Tom Clark (34) followed in the next, caught at mid-on from a leading edge, and although Jack Carson weighed in with 35 off 34 balls, wickets continued to fall as Sussex slumped to their third defeat.

"After getting out third ball for a duck, I wasn't really expecting too much from the day. But I got the opportunity to get a few overs with a new-ish ball. It swung around early doors, which helped me," Lammonby said.

"I got lucky with the first one and then I found my rhythm a little bit more. I was very pleased to pick up my first five-for. It's a pretty cool and pretty special moment."

The win lifted Somerset above Middlesex into second place, on the same number of points as leaders Yorkshire, while Sussex are sixth, four points behind the top three with two to play.

The game at Northampton pitted the bottom two teams in Group B against each other, and the Steelbacks were soon in trouble on 53-3 in the 12th over.

But opener Aadi Sharma reached a maiden 50 off 58 balls by dabbing Corey Flintoff fine past the keeper for four, and he went on to reach 82 before being caught behind from a beautiful leg-break by Matt Parkinson.

Joey Evison took 3-36 but Dom Leech (36) and Aryaman Varma (30) added 59 for the eighth wicket before Northants were all out for 243 in 47.2 overs.

Kent lost Jaydn Denly for 20, brilliantly caught at cover by Stuart van der Merwe off Nirvan Ramesh, but were 136-1 at the halfway stage of their reply as Dawkins and Evison put on 157 for the second wicket.

Dawkins reached 100 off 86 balls with a six off Van der Merwe, who had Evison caught at long-on for 82, and he remained unbeaten on 111 as Harry Finch's boundary off Varma ended the game with Kent 247.3 off 44.4 overs.
