Veteran seamer Chris Rushworth has signed a one-year contract extension at Warwickshire which will see him take up a new role as a player-coach.

The 39-year-old joined the Bears in 2023 after departing Durham as the club's all-time leading wicket-taker.

Despite being hampered by injury this season, Rushworth was still able to take seven wickets in Warwickshire's County Championship derby match with Worcestershire in May.

"As I've entered the twilight of my career, coaching has become more of a focus for me, and I am excited by the young talent at Edgbaston," Rushworth told the club website., external

First-team coach Ian Westwood added: "We recognise the need for more coaching support to our young, developing bowlers, and we are delighted that we can now create a role that utilises Rushy's expertise and experience in this area."
