Surrey have signed former Australia international batter Kurtis Patterson for three County Championship matches in May.

The 31-year-old scored 743 runs for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield over the winter, the fourth highest total, at an average of 57.15.

He will join up with Surrey ahead of next week's trip to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire.

Surrey sit second in the Division One table having won one and drawn three of their first four matches.

"I'm looking forward to joining Surrey. I've always wanted to play county cricket, so I jumped at the chance to represent Surrey when the opportunity presented itself," Patterson told Surrey's website, external.

"I've heard great things about the environment at Surrey and can't wait to play in front of the fans at the Kia Oval."

Patterson also represents Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League and represented Australia in two international Tests in 2019.

He hit 137 for Australia A against England A earlier this year.
