Warwickshire are hopeful that England all-rounder Chris Woakes will be fit to play again in the near future.

The 36-year-old has been troubled by an ankle injury since appearing in South Africa's domestic T20 competition in January.

He has been practising at Edgbaston under the supervision of England strength and conditioning staff but will miss the County Championship match with Yorkshire, which starts at Headingley on Friday.

"It's great to see him with us in the nets and he will continue to build up. He's not ready for the Yorkshire trip and I wouldn't like to put a timeframe on it," said Bears first-team coach Ian Westwood.

"We'll just have to wait and see how he keeps progressing over the next few days and we'll keep reviewing how he's doing."

Overseas signing Tom Latham is due to arrive from New Zealand next week after recovering from a broken hand.

And seam bowler Chris Rushworth is continuing his rehab following a calf problem which has prevented him playing so far this season.

Warwickshire are fifth in Championship Division One, with one win and two draws.
