Middlesex beat Northants in One-Day Cup at Radlett
- Published
Middlesex chased down their first One-Day Cup win of this season's competition in the Radlett sunshine as they ended a sorry run of four straight defeats in all competitions.
On a day of 636 runs in the Hertfordshire countryside, it handed Northants a third straight Group A defeat and leaves them probably needing to win all their last five group games to stand any chance of reaching the knock-out stages.
Nathan Fernandes and skipper Mark Stoneman both hit 83, while Joe Cracknell made 49 as Middlesex bounced back after losing their opening two games on the back of closing their T20 Blast campaign with two defeats.
Martin Andersson and Jack Davies then finished it off as the hosts reached 319-5 to win by five wickets with 11 balls to spare.
Andersson, unbeaten on 35, watched as Davies took 21, including two sixes and two fours, off the 48th over from Justin Broad, then pinched the strike to hit the winning four off Raphy Weatherall to complete a eye-catching cameo of 31 off 17 balls.

Northants had three half-centurions as they set a target of 317-9 from their 50 overs.
Opener Prithvi Shaw led the way with 76, backed by Gus Miller (73) and Saif Zaib (58).
Zaib and Miller shared a 125-run stand, more than doubling the visitors' score as they rallied from 122-5.
Northants are on their travels again on Friday when they go to Chester-le-Street to face Durham.
Middlesex, who have lost the use of Lord's because of The Hundred, do not play again now until Sunday when they go to Beckenham to face Kent before another home game at Radlett next Tuesday against Durham.
