  1. 'Clever bowling from Clark'published at 20:31 BST 3 September

    Surrey v Northants 80-4

    Phil Rowe
    BBC Radio Northampton

Good bit of bowling from Jordan Clark, Broad clothed it and it was an easy catch for third man (Atkinson).

A fair option but clever bowling from Clark to follow him across the crease, well adjusted.

    Broad c Atkinson b Clark 9 (Surrey v Northants 80-4)

Surrey paceman Jordan Clark has 3-3.

Justin Broad decided early to get the ramp shot out, the ball from Clark is slower and all Broad can do is loop into the hands of the waiting Gus Atkinson at short third.

Saif Zaib is the new batter, with Ravi Bopara on 49*.

  3. 14 off the overpublished at 8 overs

    Surrey v Northants 80-3

Ravi Bopara pulls the first ball from Sam Curran past the desperate dive of the fielder at deep mid-wicket for a one-bounce four before Tom Curran makes a hash of a diving stop at short wide third and coughs up another four runs.

Tom Lawes just about prevents another four at deep backward point with a sliding stop as Bopara runs two but Sam Curran answers back with a slower ball for a single.

Justin Broad carves a single into the covers before Bopara drills to the cover boundary for a couple, with Lawes making a soggy sliding stop expertly.

It really is very damp out there.

  4. 'Much better from Northants'published at 20:26 BST 3 September

    Surrey v Northants 66-3

    Phil Rowe
    BBC Radio Northampton

This has the beginnings of a fight back, one of these is gong to have to go on, but this is much better from Northants.

  5. Postpublished at 7 overs

    Surrey v Northants 66-3

Justin Broad isn't quite timing it yet, but does his job with a quick single to bring Ravi Bopara back onto strike from the first ball of Chris Jordan's second over.

An inside-edge onto his pads rotates the strike again but a shorter one from Jordan is missed with a big attempted cut shot by Broad.

Finally he middles one from ball four and carves Jordan beautifully through extra cover to the rope. That'll do him good.

The next ball is clipped into the leg side for a single before Jordan bangs one in short and Bopara's flail above his head ensures it's called a wide.

Bopara carves the final ball away to backward point for a single to make it nine runs from the over. He has 36 from 18 balls. Good recovery, this.

  6. 'Bounce and zip from Chris Jordan'published at 20:22 BST 3 September

    Surrey v Northants 57-3

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A very open stance for Justin Broad.

Bounce and zip from Chris Jordan taking Ollie Pope by surprise.

He has looked quick for Surrey this season.

Gus Atkinson is the next cab off the rank for Surrey, nice luxury to have.

Ravi Bopara scampers another risky single to bring Justin Broad onto strike, and two balls later he risks another single after cracking straight at the mid-off fielder, with Bopara diving to make his ground at the striker's end to beat the throw.

Bopara effortlessly slaps Atikinson back over a widish long-off for another maximum before having another big swing, only to flash an edge to the boundary behind him.

The final ball is shorter and dispatched with aplomb by Bopara over fine leg for a mighty six. he's on it, here.

18 off the over and Bopara has 34 from 16 balls.

  8. 'It looked awful'published at 20:16 BST 3 September

    Surrey v Northants 39-3

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

He was not sure whether to sick or twist, in the end he hung back and it went through his hands for four.

Maybe he did not pick that up, but it looked awful, really terrible.

  9. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Surrey v Northants 39-3

Justin Broad gets off the mark with a single before Ravi Bopara flat-bats one straight at Dan Lawrence at deep mid-wicket, the ball dropping short and then bouncing past the fielder who appeared to lose it in the lights and to the rope.

Ironic cheers for Lawrence as he fields the next ball neatly.

Six off the over, but another wicket too. Bopara has 17*.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

    Robinson c Pope b Jordan 20 (Surrey v Northants 33-3)

Chris Jordan strikes with his first ball - the final one of the powerplay.

He bangs one in short and Tim Robinson, who has played positively, gets his timing wrong and can only miscue his pull into the murky sky and down into the gloves of Ollie Pope.

20 from 12 balls was a decent return, but his side remain in trouble.

Justin Broad is the new batter.

  11. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 4 overs

    Surrey v Northants 33-2

Sam Curran replaces brother Tom for over number four and Ravi Bopara launches his first ball, a rather loose one, over the rope at deep backward square.

A slap through mid-wicket brings Tim Robinson back onto strike and he gets a stroke of luck as he top-edges a pull over the head of Ollie Pope for a one-bounce four.

Curran takes the pace off for his next two and allows a mis-timed leg-side single but his last ball is short and Bopara tries to launch it over deep mid-wicket, not timing it quite right, and eventually seeing it plug short of Gus Atkinson, who was sliding in the outfield.

Good over for the Steelbacks... 14 off it.

    Cameron Steel
Surrey leg-spin allrounder on BBC R5LSX

Tim Robinson was doing a quarter-squat primer in the gym pre-match with a 200kg weight on his back!

Remember he was a javelin thrower too.

  13. 'Such a languid swing of the bat'published at 20:08 BST 3 September

    Surrey v Northants 30-2

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

The thing with Ravi when he bats is it never looks like he is putting any effort in, such a languid swing of the bat.

  14. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Surrey v Northants 19-2

Jordan Clark returns for his second over.

Jason Roy just about misses the stumps with a run-out attempt from mid-on as Tim Robinson scampers a single.

He and Ravi Bopara rotate the strike with three singles before Robinson misses a back-foot uppercut and then takes a wild air shot at one he wanted to launch over cow corner.

    Three off the over.

  15. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 2 overs

    Surrey v Northants 16-2

After a quick single from Ravi Bopara Tim Robinson gets off the mark with a slightly false shot which somehow evades the grasp of the fielder at backward point and glides over the wet outfield to the boundary.

The fourth ball from Tom Curran is right in the slot and Robinson launches the ball over long-off and into the stand, though the man in the front row spills the catch.

The over finishes with another boundary as Robinson moves to 14* with Bopara on 2*.

This is a terrific first over from Jordan Clark.

Each side gets one review, David Willey went straight away with it whilst Surrey were absolutely convinced, one of the most convincing appeals you can wish to see.

To burn your review in the first over, wowzas.

    Willey c Pope b Clark 0 (Surrey v Northants 1-2)

Ravi Bopara nudges a leg-side single from the third ball of the over to bring David Willey onto strike, though the lefty mistimes a chop off a slower ball from the first delivery he sees.

He digs out a wide yorker to point from ball five and then GOES.

Or does he... review incoming... ultra edge is needed to see if he's feathered an edge through to Ollie Pope. And he has.

It sounded like it all along.

Two for Clark in the first over and a dream start for Surrey.

Little nibble outside the off-stump as it just kissed off the surface.

It was one just to the left of the wicketkeeper, who did well to not nibble at it with his left glove, leaving experienced catcher Chris Jordan to take it safely.

Jordan Clark takes the new ball for the hosts... and gets a wicket with his first delivery!

Nips back, finds the edge as Ricardo Vasconcelos flashes a drive and through to Chris Jordan at slip to take a neat catch in his midriff.

Ravi Bopara is the new man in the middle.
