The highest target they have chased is 128 against Welsh Fire in 2021.

I am shocked by that. It looked for all the money in the world it was crashing into middle or leg stump.

    Phoenix 11-2

    Excuse me?!

That looked stone dead but ball-tracking says that the ball is missing leg. Huge - and unexpected - escape for Georgia Voll.

    A lifeline for Birmingham Phoenix.

A very full delivery and Georgia Voll does not look confident. She needs some advice from Ellyse Perry.

    Has Georgia Voll gone too?

She misses with a reverse sweep off Jess Jonassen and is given out lbw.

If there is no bat or glove involved then she is in big trouble.

You want to set a bit of a platform with two wickets down. Ellyse Perry needs to get off the mark and these dot balls will be getting to her.

The best players know how to stay calm in that situation

Georgia Voll is looking to stamp her authority on this innings very early on. You want to get ahead of the run-rate in those first 25 balls.

  8. Phoenix 11-2published at 85 balls left

    Target 151

Georgia Voll has come out firing and thumps her second boundary to begin the set for Freya Davies.

A single brings Ellyse Perry on strike but the Australia great has struggled to get going so far and it is not until the last ball of the fived, the seventh she has faced, that Perry gets off the mark with a single.

Bowlers are used to bowling six balls for an over. 10 balls is something they are not totally keen on doing.

That comes down to the fitness element but when you are bowling well it makes sense to keep the pressure on.

What a first 10 that is from Shabnim Ismail.

Her first ball was drilled for four but she conceded just one run in the next nine balls and took two wickets.

Phoenix in trouble early and have two Aussies - Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry - out there to try and sort it out.

That was definitely worth a review for Marie Kelly.

Shabnim Ismail has a second! But surely that was worth a review for Marie Kelly?

Back of a length from Ismail, Kelly tries to whip it leg side but misses and is hit on the front pad.

It always looked to be sliding down leg but Kelly showed no sign of ever reviewing, a brief chat with Georgia Voll doesn't change that and she walks off.

Ball-tracking shows what looked clear on first viewing... it was missing leg by some way!

Emma Lamb came right across the ball and there was a lack of feet movement which pace can do to you.

A great start for Welsh Fire.

    Bowler her!

Superb from Shabnim Ismail. A full, fast delivery and the ball nips back sharply to beat Emma Lamb and crash into off stump.

Lamb is Phoenix's top run-scorer in the competition this year so that is a real blow for the home side.

  17. Phoenix 4-0published at 99 balls left

    Target 151

What a start to the chase!

Half-volley to start from Shabnim Ismail, a bit of away swing but straight onto the middle of Georgia Voll's bat.

Driven beautifully through the covers for four.

    Here come the players.

Welsh Fire get in a huddle on the outfield, they'll be desperate to end their winless start to this campaign.

Georgia Voll and Emma Lamb are the Birmingham Phoenix openers. A good start could be key for them as they bid to keep their top-three hopes alive.

  20. 'It is a decent batting surface'published at 16:22 British Summer Time 22 August

Welsh Fire all-rounder Jess Jonassen, speaking on Sky Sports: "A bit of luck for me, I should have been out first ball. I tried to muscle a few at the end and luckily it came off.

"It has been one of those seasons where it has not clicked for us. Sometimes things don't go your way and that's just the way it is. Sophia Dunkley has been hitting well so it was nice to see her hitting well out there again today."

On the surface: "It is a decent batting surface. A little on the slower side. If you bowl the ball on the right side it can be hard to score however."
