    Breaking

The news we feared has been confirmed. The umpires have called off this match without a ball being bowled. Rain is the winner.

We'll try again on Sunday for the final match of the series. The forecast is better for that one.

Persistence pays off for a few young fans in the stands.

After a spell of shouting "JACOB" in the vague direction of the England squad, the stand-in skipper danders over to the boundary and obliges with a series of selfies.

A souvenir at least even if they don't end up seeing any cricket today.

That bit of news will have people dancing on the streets of Aberdeen.

If Currie does not feature in this series he would be able to return to play for Scotland, who he has previously represented in three ODIs, without any limits should he choose.

Once he plays for England he will be ineligible for Scotland for three years.

  5. Currie to return from Ireland for Hampshire's finalpublished at 15:42 BST 19 September

A small bit of news from the England camp.

Bowler Scott Currie, who was called up to replace Saqib Mahmood for this tour, is to leave Ireland so he can play in tomorrow's One Day Cup final for Hampshire.

You've missed out the crucial detail, Marc. What were you building?

My mates are at match today. I chose to stay at home and do some building work in my garden. Having finished yesterday I am today basking in 25c in.my garden in London with a cold drink.

Meanwhile in Abu Dhabi, there were handshakes at the toss.

There's some prodding of grass with toe by the umpires and it's very grey and wet.

The groundstaff are begun activity around the covers, however, raising the possibility of some action.

I'm told the umpires are out having another look at the state of the outfield.

I fear we're getting towards the point where this match is called off.

It is still raining in Malahide. Before this rain fell we were told it would take 45 minutes to get the playing area ready. That will only have increased.

They have to be playing by 17:16 for a five-over match.

Tim, all you've managed to do is confuse me.

Re the four consecutive beeps. If the beeps weren't consecutive, they would be concurrent. In that case, would it just be one single louder bleep. I appreciate this doesn't allow for partially overlapping beeps, which would sound like one beep with varying volume depending on the number of overlaps, I imagine.

The Irish team will be mad keen to get out because opportunities like this don't come around often. If it's too slippy they'll still be cautious though.

Ireland's all-time XI would be a tougher question. Stirling, the O'Briens, Josh Little.

Don't forget without Lorcan Tucker England would never have won that T20 World Cup in 2022.

Archer has played more T20s than Plunkett, taken more wickets and has basically the same economy rate despite being more in the death and in the powerplay. Dan's school is a tough one in Eastbourne.

I would change Archer to a prime Liam Plunkett.

Ryan Sidebottom is currently fuming about his omission somewhere in Yorkshire.

I feel like England can do better than that XI but I'm also struggling to name names to improve it.

I'm going to assume (hope) this is a stag do.

For a second I thought the lad on the back right here was dressed as the Ashes urn.
