  1. Eng 122-6published at 17.2 overs

Good running from Brydon Carse gets Sam Curran back on strike. Henry isn't amused.

  2. Eng 120-6published at 17.1 overs

Sam Curran is one who has plenty to gain on this trip. He slices the returning Matt Henry for four with a cut to start the 18th over well.

  3. Eng 116-6published at 17 overs

    Curran 17, Carse 1

That wicket brings in Brydon Carse. New Zealand are into the bowlers.

A cross seamer again which has just stood up on the pitch. Once again when England threaten it's all undone by the loss of a wicket.

But Cox goes next ball! Hitting hard down the ground does not seem the way to go. England's batters aren't learning.

He's the latest to aim down town and sky a catch straight up in the air. Daryl Mitchell takes the catch at long-on.

  6. Eng 114-5published at 16.3 overs

Jordan Cox drills a full toss first up. Four runs.

  7. Eng 110-5published at 16.2 overs

The players are back out. No overs lost.

150 might be a good score. The break won't have helped Curran and Cox's batting rhythm.

After a chat with the groundstaff, the umpires give a thumbs up to the dressing rooms.

It appears we're going to get back under way shortly.

Nathan is right. New Zealand have bowled well. The pitch isn't the easiest either.

The umpires are wandering back out to the middle.

Ah how I've missed the negativity spiral that is supporting the England men's cricket team. New Zealand have bowled well and it looks a tough pitch to score on when the pace is off, let's at least wait until both teams have batted.

The crowd is staying in place on the grass banks, although there isn't really anywhere else to go at Hagley Oval. It's basically in the middle of a park.

They're heading off. It's not heavy but enough.

  14. dropped catch

Curran dropped on 14published at 16 overs

    A goober!

Sam Curran sends another slower ball a mile up. Bowler Jacob Duffy tries to take it himself but seems to be hurried as the ball falls from the dark sky and is lucky not to be hit in the teeth as it goes through his hands.

  15. Eng 108-5published at 15.5 overs

Four leg byes help England a bit more. Can they finish off this Duffy over with another boundary?

Just a thought but maybe before scheduling games the ECB should consider if there is an appetite for players to travel. Far too often England turn up underprepared.

Incredibly, England score more freely playing Bazball style in Test matches than in a format where you'd expect Bazball to prosper.

I would love to know how one of the best T20 players in the world Liam Livingstone can't get in this England team ahead of Liam Dawson. He smashes huge scores with the bat and takes his share of wickets.

Jordan Cox steps across and sweeps the quick bowler for four.

    These two like batting together.

  18. Eng 99-5published at 15.2 overs

There's some rain in the air as seamer Jacob Duffy, who faced these two batters in The Hundred this year, returns.

  19. Eng 97-5published at 15 overs

As slow as possible seems to be the way to go for the spinners. Even with that six there are only seven runs from the over.

Santner finishes with 1-20 from four overs.

    Shot.

Sam Curran smears a full ball from Santner back over his head. More of that needed.
