    Stubbs b Starc 8 (SA 241-4)

    No doubt about this one!

Tristan Stubbs' uncertain innings comes to an end thanks to a ripper from Mitchell Starc, good length from around the wicket and it just trims the bails.

Not much foot movement from Stubbs, who trudges off with eight from 43 balls.

    Nothing.

    Australia throw away another review.

    It is very close.

  5. Aus reviewpublished at 70.2 overs

Alex Carey is alone in appealing for Stubbs to be caught down the leg side, but it's enough to convince Pat Cummins into a review.

  6. SA 240-3published at 70 overs

    Target 282

Tristan Stubbs loves a reverse sweep, but misses out on his first attempt against Nathan Lyon.

He has eight from 41 balls so far. How long until he gives in?

  7. drinks break

    SA 238-3published at 69 overs

    Target 282

    Steady!

Tristan Stubbs drives to mid-off and calls for the single straight away. Pat Cummins swoops and throws in one movement and forces the batter into a full-length dive.

Would've been interesting with a direct hit, but Stubbs makes it to the first drinks break.

25 runs and one wicket in the first hour.

For South Africa, it's exciting because they have a chance to buck the trend. They've looked in control so far and have been pretty relaxed. That's how you need to be because as soon as the panic sets in, you lose control.

  9. SA 235-3published at 68 overs

    Target 282

    Hmm.

Something for Aiden Markram to think about as Lyon gets one to turn sharply into him and shoot along the ground.

He digs it out and drives the next ball for two. The sun is beaming down on Lord's now and it looks a picture.

Mitchell Starc chases wickets. Australia wouldn't have started with him because he's expensive, they let other people come in and apply the pressure. Now they've put on the squeeze, Starc can come on and find the breakthrough.

  11. SA 233-3published at 67 overs

    Target 282

Echoes of South Africa's first innings here, where they barely played a shot and lost four quick wickets after going into their shells.

Australia aren't giving anything away, so it's obviously easier said than done, but they will relish this.

Stubbs blocks out a maiden from Mitchell Starc's first over.

  12. SA 233-3published at 66 overs

    Target 282

Here's Nathan Lyon for Australia's first bowling change.

He finds some sharp turn to Tristan Stubbs, who is playing off the back foot, and just one run comes from the over.

The only team in the world who would rock up at Lord's this morning to face an opposition needing 69 runs with eight wickets in hand and still think they can win is Australia. I wouldn't fancy anyone else's chances.

    Shot!

Aiden Markram pulls the next ball for four with a swagger.

South Africa are just 50 runs away now.

    Comfortably missing leg stump.

Pat Cummins is human after all. Terrible call.

Maybe a bit of a desperate review, it looked a bit high.

  17. Aus reviewpublished at 64.4 overs

I've lost count of how many lbw reviews we've had in this game and very few of them seem to have been successful.

Pat Cummins fancies another look at this one on Stubbs, but it's very optimistic.

You can just tell that South Africa are just letting the opening spell play out. That wicket of Bavuma left the door slightly ajar for Australia but Markram and Stubbs know they have so much time, they know that they can be a bit calmer.

    Another Hazlewood maiden.

    How does he do it?!

  20. SA 227-3published at 63 overs

    Target 282

Oooh. A ripper from Cummins beats the outside edge but Stubbs responds with a nice clip off his pads for a couple more.

No fireworks yet as South Africa seem happy to chip away slowly.
