    Tough chance!

Brendan Doggett fends off Mark Wood's delivery with the ball flying swiftly towards Ollie Pope at short leg.

Pope gets a finger tip on the ball just above the ground, but can't snaffle the catch.

Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell and Matthew Potts have left England’s squad on day two of the first Ashes Test to join England Lions’ game against a Cricket Australia XI at Lilac Hill.

The trio were left out of the XI for the series opener and have been added to a Lions’ game that began on Friday.

Somerset wicketkeeper-batter James Rew, who was in the England squad for the Test against Zimbabwe in May, has moved in the opposite direction to provide fielding cover at Perth Stadium.

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir and pace bowler Josh Tongue, also left out of the England team for the first Test, have remained with the Ashes squad.

England do not play between the first Test and second Test in Brisbane, with a Lions team travelling to Canberra to play a two-day pink-ball match against the Prime Minister’s XI.

The benefit of new born twins, guaranteed alarm, and you can’t sleep through. If you missed the opening morning, try this in four years' time.

Australia were poor when they looked to defend yesterday. They played 60% false shots (31% play & missed and 29% edges) while looking to play defensive shots. On average the false shots for Australia at home in the last three seasons with defensive shots is 23% - far lower than the 60% yesterday.

Half expected the Aussies to declare and get stuck in this morning. Fair bit of cloud around and it’s quite muggy.

  8. Aus 124-9published at 40 overs

Brendan Doggett faces three four Wood deliveries without scoring before getting off the strike via a leg bye off his hip.

Wood then fires in a yorker that Nathan Lyon does extremely well to keep out, hopping around to jam the ball away from his feet.

They were outstanding. They've been together for a long time which always helps. The conditions were perfect but you've still got to bowl well, so credit to them.

I don't think I've ever seen a better England seam attack since 1976. I thought they were absolutely outstanding yesterday.

It wasn't just the pace they bowled, the line and lengths were absolutely perfect.

The players are back out there.

Debutant Brendan Doggett is going to face the opening ball of the day from Mark Wood.

Doggett, who averages 8.57 in first class cricket, is yet to face a delivery in this innings.

Khawaja played 18 holes of golf the day before and that's what caused him back stiffness. He's receiving a lot of stick for that.

My question about Bazball is are they trying to take pressure off the players or are they trying to take away fear.

We probably saw England throw away five or six wickets yesterday, did they learn from that?

We're under 10 minutes from the start of play, with the England set to bowl their first over at Nathan Lyon and Brendan Doggett at 2:20 GMT.

Alex Hartley has described today's weather as a "Manchester day" on Test Match Special - having just enjoyed a chilly bike ride into our office in Salford I'd guess it's still a fair bit warmer in Western Australia.

But after perfect conditions on day one there is a forecast of light rain today. It's currently overcast but dry.

I would like to see Mitchell Starc get some swing on the ball. He did really well yesterday but didn't really get any movement. If there's anytime to do it, it's in the morning.

Welcome back - it's day two of the Ashes and we're due another blockbuster morning session after yesterday's chaos.

England were bowled out for 172 after choosing to bat, with Mitchell Starc taking career-best figures of 7-58.

No matter, England's all pace attack bowled superbly to leave Australia 123-9 at the close, with Ben Stokes taking five successive wickets to blow away the tail.

England go hunting for the final Australian wicket this morning, and will be hoping to build on a small lead.
