GB cycling coach Shane Sutton 'to make complete recovery'

British Cycling head coach Shane Sutton is expected to "make a complete recovery and return to work shortly" following his bike crash in Manchester.

The Australian, 55, was diagnosed with bleeding on the brain after colliding with a car on the A6 on Thursday.

A British Cycling spokesman said: "Shane is making steady progress but is likely to remain in hospital for one more day under observation.

"He has fractured his cheek bone which will require surgery in due course."

The accident happened less than 24 hours after Tour de France and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins suffered bruising in a separate incident near Wigan in Lancashire.

Sutton, who is also head coach at Team Sky and is credited with being an influential figure in British cycling's recent rise, was involved in an incident while pedalling along the A6 in Manchester suburb Levenshulme on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday evening, Tour de France winner and four-time Olympic champion Wiggins, was knocked off his bike near a petrol station.

Wiggins, 32, was released from hospital with a bruised hand and ribs on Thursday.
