UCI Road World Championships: Omega Pharma win team time trial

Great Britain's Katie Colclough took time trial gold with the Specialized-Lululemon team on day one of the Road World Championships in Tuscany, Italy.

The 23-year-old from Lincolnshire (pictured right) helped her American six-woman team defend their title in a time of 51 minutes 10.69 seconds.

Tour de France winner Chris Froome and fellow Briton Geraint Thomas took bronze with Team Sky in the men's race.

The team trials are the only events for trade teams at the World Championships.

Colclough's joy at time trial gold

Froome, Thomas, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Vasil Kiryienka, Richie Porte and Kanstantsin Siutsou covered the 57.2km course in 1:04.39, 22.55 seconds behind winners Omega Pharma Quick-Step, led by Germany's Tony Martin.

Colclough, who will go for gold with Great Britain in the women's elite road race on Saturday, teamed up with Lisa Brennauer and Trixi Worack of Germany, Carmen Small and Evelyn Stevens of the United States, and Eleonora van Dijk of the Netherlands.

Specialized-Lululemon saw off multiple world and Olympic champion Marianne Vos and the Dutch Rabo squad into second place.

The British Wiggle Honda team, including Olympic gold medallists Dani King and Joanna Rowsell, finished sixth, while Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead and fellow Briton Emma Trott helped the Dutch Boels Dolmans team to 10th place.

Sir Bradley Wiggins is among the Britons who will be in action later in the week.
