Matt Crampon clinches keirin gold in Mexico

Great Britain's Matt Crampton sprinted to keirin gold on the final day of the Track Cycling World Cup in Mexico.

The 27-year-old beat Germany's Tobias Wachter by less than 0.04 seconds, with Australian Shane Perkins third.

Double Olympic champion Laura Trott, 21, won silver in the omnium in Aguascalientes, finishing behind American world champion Sarah Hammer.

Great Britain finished third in the medal standings behind leaders Germany, and Australia.

Manchester-based Crampton's success was Britain's third gold medal of the meeting, after the women's team pursuit quartet won in a world record time and Owain Doull triumphed in the men's scratch race.

Crampton tweeted: "Chuffed with the Keirin win! Thanks for all the support everyone."

In the women's sprint, Jess Varnish finished fourth and world champion Becky James had to settle for seventh as Germany's Kristina Vogel beat Australian Olympic champion Anna Meares 2-0 in the final.

France's Francois Pervis set a stunning new world record of 56.303 seconds in the 1km time trial, beating the 12-year-old previous record by more than two and a half seconds.
