Glasgow 2014: Laura Trott to ride for Lizzie Armitstead

Laura Trott will ride in support of England team-mate Lizzie Armitstead in the road race at the Commonwealth Games next month - despite beating her at the National Championships.

Trott won the biggest road race of her career on Sunday, outsprinting Dani King and Armitstead, both of whom will compete alongside her in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old won Olympic gold in the omnium and team pursuit in 2012.

"We will give 100% to help Lizzie get the gold medal," said Trott.

"We rode that course at last year's nationals, and it is a really hard course and a proper Lizzie course."

The Commonwealth Games road race takes place on 3 August.

Meanwhile, Trott's Wiggle Honda team have announced Kathryn Bertine will be part of their team for La Course, the women's stage of the Tour de France, on 27 July.

Bertine, 39, was one of a group of cyclists who set up Le Tour Entier campaign last year, calling for a women's Tour de France to be run at the same time as the men's over the same distances.

Tour organisers have granted them a one-day race initially, finishing on the Champs-Elysees before the men's final stage ends there.
