Dani King: Olympic cycling champion breaks five ribs in crash

Dani King has made a switch from track to road cycling in a bid to win gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics

Olympic champion Dani King has suffered five broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a crash in training.

King, who won gold in the team pursuit at London 2012, confirmed on Twitter, external she is receiving treatment in hospital.

Cardiff-based King, originally from Hampshire, crashed on a regular training route in south Wales after a member of her group hit a pothole.

In October, the 23-year-old decided to switch from track to road cycling to ride full-time for team Wiggle Honda.

She finished runner-up to Laura Trott at the British Championships in June.
