Why did Luke Littler post a spoof 'retirement' video?

  • Published

Luke Littler has said that he is going to "take a step back" from darts in a social media video - but fans of 'The Nuke' should not be worried about his sporting future.

The video was released as part of a promotional campaign for a football video game before its release on Friday.

Littler is an avid player of the game and later posted a second video alongside streamer Angry Ginge and Professional Darts Corporation ambassador Russ Bray.

The Professional Darts Corporation confirmed Littler will feature at this weekend's Hungarian Darts Open and they say he had full clearance to do the advert.

The current world champion, 18, initially posted a video in which some fans thought he was stepping back from the sport.

"I've had an awesome career," he said. "I couldn't have asked for much better for myself. It's been full on for two years, I've done many great things.

"[Winning] the Premier League at 17 on debut, the nine-darters on [TV], winning the World Championships at 18, the youngest ever to do it. I just want to say thanks to all of my fans, the support over the last two years has been phenomenal.

"It will shock some people that I'm taking a step back. It's not been an easy decision. Now I want to focus on doing something I really, really love."

At the end of the video, Littler could be heard joking: "Do you think they'll fall for that?"
