It has been a turbulent Thursday inside Alexandra Palace for the seeded players at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

The two in action, Michael Smith and Gabriel Clemens, both exited after shock second round defeats, while there were thrilling wins for Callan Rydz, Robert Owen and Scott Williams.

On missing 11 doubles in the first set: "I felt like my scoring power was great, I just couldn't get a double in. When I got one in, I just kept on going and going."

Kevin Doets speaking to Sky Sports after beating Michael Smith 3-2: "I cannot describe this."

On his last 12 months: "I was really close to beating Rob Cross in the World Series finals. I lost out, I was unlucky. This game was weird. He took his own set easy, I took my set easy, he took his easy, I took mine easily. The last set was incredible."

On getting revenge for Michael Smith's win 12 months ago: "Before the game, I won the bull and he won it 3-2. This year, he won the bull and I won it 3-2. This is the most stressful game of my life and I've won it, yes!"

Kevin Doets has to win this leg. Otherwise, we go to a sudden death leg.

After nine darts, Doets has 81 left to win the match and knockout the 2023 World Champion.

Looking to set up bull, he misses single 12 and leaves Michael Smith on 167, which he cannot take.

Doets gets three double 20 chances. He misses tops, misses double 10 and cashes in on double five.

A 6-4 win in the last set.

Michael Smith has the darts and is leading, despite good scoring from Kevin Doets.

A 180 from the Dutchman leaves him on 90, but Michael Smith has 81.

He takes treble 19, but misses double 12.

Back on his throw, Michael Smith starts with five treble 20s in his first six darts.

After nine, he is left needing 94 to take a 4-3 set lead.

He checks out 94 on a double double for a 12-dart hold of throw, pinning the 19s twice!

Kevin Doets leaves the big fish, but cannot take it.

With Michael Smith on 174, Doets will be back.

The Dutchman has 112, but is treble-less.

Smith is back on 76. Treble 20, miss, double eight.

The standard on display is at some level right now.

First blood to Kevin Doets, who breaks throw with an 81 checkout on double 12 for a 3-2 lead.

On his throw, Kevin Doets starts off 180, 100 to really put the pressure on "Bully Boy."

After nine, both men need 161. Doets hits 89, while Smith only picks up 77.

Left on 72, Doets hits single 16 twice but misses double 20.

Smith has 84 left and takes it out on double 11, what a checkout to save his skin.

He lets out an almighty roar!

With 2-2 the score in sets and legs, we will go on until one man is two legs clear.

Michael Smith cannot lose a leg from here, but Kevin Doets is peppering that treble 20 bed, even after a bounce out.

Smith gets the chance to finish first on 123, with Doets waiting on 128.

Smith takes out treble 19, treble 16 and double nine to stay in the match.

After that break of throw, Kevin Doets has the chance to cause the upset of the tournament so far.

Two holds of throw would do the job.

An 85 gives the Dutchman three darts at 96.

After a treble 20 miss, he recovers on treble 16 but misses double 14.

Michael Smith misses doubles himself and on double seven, Doets wins a fifth straight leg.

He is one away from a win.

It is raining 180s!

Kevin Doets starts the deciding set with two of them, while Michael Smith gets one of his own.

The Dutchman takes out 100 on double 20 in an 11-dart leg for a break of throw.

This set has been all about Kevin Doets, with the Dutch youngster taking command from the off.

On 102, he leaves himself three darts at double eight to take the set 3-0.

He goes outside and inside of double eight before missing 45, but missed doubles from Michael Smith come as a blessing for Doets.

Doets returns to take out double four, which he does to tie the match.

Kevin Doets gets the chance to double his lead in the set with a 132 out, but a second 25 of the checkout is not what he wanted.

The Dutchman comes back to take out 25 on double eight for a 2-0 set lead.

A deciding set is nearing.

With the set on his throw, Kevin Doets' 180 gives him six darts at a 121 out.

After three, he leaves 68, with Michael Smith waiting on 116.

Doets takes out treble 20 and double four in two darts for the leg.

A 180 from Michael Smith sees him close in on a third set whitewash.

On 161, he leaves himself 24, which he comes back for as Kevin Doets misses his checkout chance on bull.

A quieter leg, Michael Smith just about beats Kevin Doets to a finish, but his first out opportunity is at 150, with Doets left a more favourable 64.

A first-dart bounce out sums up the Dutchman's luck. The latter two darts see him miss the finish on double 11.

Smith returns to finish off 55 on double 20, moving 2-0 up in the third set.
