Adenegan breaks T34 100m world record
Great British wheelchair racer Kare Adenegan set a huge new world record in the T34 100m at the Anniversary Games.
The 17-year-old shattered compatriot Hannah Cockcroft's mark of 17.18 seconds with a searing time of 16.80, beating Cockroft into second (17.55).
"I was hungry for it and gave everything on the track," the Coventry Godiva athlete told BBC Sport.
There was also a world record for world and Paralympic champion Sophie Hahn in the T38 200m.
The 21-year-old clocked 25.93 seconds in a comfortable victory to improve on the previous record of 26.11, which she set last summer.
"I couldn't quite believe it when I saw the time," she said afterwards. "I felt really good in the warm-up and training has been going really well, and watching Kare really inspired me."
Adenegan, who took up the sport after watching Cockcroft at the London 2012 Paralympics, had marked herself out as one to watch after lowering her personal best to 17.37 earlier this season.
She won three medals at last year's World Para-athletics Championships in London - a 100m silver alongside third-place finishes in the 400m and 800m.
But this time her start was far stronger than Cockroft's and it helped her to power clear.

"My 100m has been really strong this year and I knew if I had gone anywhere near my PB today I would be happy," she said.
"I knew coming in that with Hannah so amazing, I would have to work really hard for it, so to go sub-17 is unbelievable.
"I have so much respect for Hannah. She has inspired me so much."
But Cockroft, who was also beaten by Adenegan over 400m in 2015 to end her run of more than 300 consecutive wins in the T34 category, aimed a barb at her critics after her defeat.
"I've been watching Kare's times this season and she has done amazingly well," she told BBC Sport.
"For the last 10 years people have been calling me a cheat and a fake and now someone is up with me, what are you going to say?
"I've finally got competition and this is what I have been looking forward to for the last few years."
