GB's Jack Laugher has won three world junior titles

Jack Laugher put a disappointing London Olympics behind him by claiming an impressive individual 3m springboard gold in Adelaide, Australia.

The Great Britain teenager went out in the preliminaries at the Games, but returned to form with a score of 635.45 to land his third world junior title.

Laugher, 17, won double gold at the event in Arizona, US, in 2010.

"It was an absolutely outstanding performance," said GB Junior Development Manager Julian Bellan.

"In London he missed two of his strongest dives but he came back here, took the challenge and performed the same two dives so well.

Laugher beat China's Peng Jianfengby by 56.80 points and secured victory with 90.10 from his forward 2.5 somersaults, 2.5 twists in pike - the same dive he failed to complete at London 2012.

"He was in a different class from the rest of the field," said Bellan. "It showed great character to do that and he is a deserving champion."

In future senior events Laugher is expected to team-up with Chris Mears, who finished fifth alongside veteran diver Nick Robinson-Bakes in the 3m synchronised springboard final in London.

Ahead of that the teenager will compete alongside individual 10m platform Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley in the synchronised 3m springboard event on Tuesday.

"I am really looking forward to testing out synchro on 3m with Jack," said Daley.

"This is the first time I will be doing 3m synchro at an international, but we've been training well together and I think our synchro is good."

Dan Goodfellow, 16, finished 12th in the 3m individual springboard final, with team-mate Shanice Lobb 10th in the Group B 1m event.
