Shrewsbury 0-0 Torquay (agg 0-2)

Torquay will face Stevenage for a place in League One after seeing out a comfortable aggregate win over Shrewsbury in a second-leg stalemate.

The Gulls won the first leg of the semi-final 2-0 and Shrewsbury never looked like getting back into the tie.

Gavin Tomlin had arguably the best chance, getting the ball on the edge of the box, nutmegging Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and curling just wide.

Town's Nicky Wroe forced a save from Scott Bevan late on.

The Gulls finished 11 points behind Shrewsbury in the league and only sneaked into the play-offs on the final day on goal difference, while Town missed out on automatic promotion on the same day.

In fact, Torquay, who were deducted one point for a problem with Jake Robinson's registration, failed to win in their last five games of the regular season.

But they did the hard work in the first leg at Plainmoor, thanks to goals from Chris Zebroski and Eunan O'Kane.

Next up for Paul Buckle's side at Old Trafford is Graham Westley's Stevenage, a fixture that two years ago was in the Blue Square Premier.

Graham Turner's Town, celebrating their 125th anniversary, needed a bright start and had a chance in the opening quarter of an hour. But Lionel Ainsworth's weak shot from 25 yards was saved easily by Torquay keeper Scott Bevan.

Bevan then had to react well to tip a mis-hit cross by Jermaine Grandison over his own bar.

Ainsworth then saw another tame effort held by Bevan. But, in truth, they rarely looked threatening and Torquay had a great chance to lead.

But on-loan striker Robinson, facing his parent club, failed to connect with Tomlin's cross from six yards out.

Zebroski then forced a good save and dragged a shot wide, either side of Mark Wright's ball across goal for Shrewsbury, which none of his team-mates managed to get on the end of.

Town were struggling to cause Bevan major problems, Ainsworth and Dave Davis both missing the target from outside the box.

Torquay looked more likely to add to their lead, Robinson forcing a save from Smith before Tomlin curled his effort just wide after a piece of trickery 18 yards out.

Grandison and Ian Sharps had shots easily saved and Bevan tipped Wroe's effort over as Shrewsbury's season ended with a whimper.
