Cambridge United have signed Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Tom Shaw on a free transfer after he rejected a new deal at Aggborough.

The 25-year-old becomes manager Jez George's first permanent signing and has agreed a two-year deal.

The ex-Tamworth man made 26 league starts for Harriers in his only season at the club, scoring five goals.

"Tom fits perfectly into the profile of player we want to attract to this club," George told the club website.

"He is the right age and possesses all of the qualities we are looking for."

Shaw, whose previous clubs also include Mansfield and Rushden & Diamonds, added: "I met Jez after the season finished and he sold the club to me.

"It's going to be a transition period for the club but hopefully we'll get a good team together and I think I will work well with Jez and have a good season."

Kidderminster boss Steve Burr admitted he was surprised Shaw had left the club one year after arriving from Tamworth, especially considering Cambridge's publicised financial cut backs.

"Tom had an excellent offer from Cambridge that he couldn't turn down and it wasn't one we could really come close to," he said.

"That's a little be strange for a club with their reported financial problems but that is completely up to them and is their business.

"We thank Tom for his efforts while he was here and wish him well for the future."
