Wolves owner Steve Morgan backs boss Mick McCarthy

Wolves owner Steve Morgan says he wants Mick McCarthy to stay on as the club's manager even if they are relegated.

Wolves host Blackburn at Molineux on Sunday knowing a win would be enough to keep them in the Premier League.

"You never give the dreaded vote of confidence but Mick has been here for five years and I don't believe you get any progress at all by chopping and changing," said Morgan.

"Chopping and changing happens at other clubs and what good has it done them?"

Wolves looked like they were struggling to survive after a 3-0 defeat at Stoke in April, but Sunderland have boosted their hopes.

They are 16th, a point above the drop zone going into Sunday's decisive final round of fixtures, with opponents Blackburn also in danger of relegation.

But Morgan, who took over at Wolves in 2007, has paid tribute to the job McCarthy has done in the west Midlands.

"I know Mick has made progress every year since I've been here," he added. "There are times in life when things don't go right but you've got to get back up and stand together and make sure you get it right next time.

"The fans have seen that, they've got behind the club and everyone benefits from it.

"In the first year I was here with Mick we missed the play-offs by one goal, the second year we were champions and the third year we established ourselves in the Premier League for the first time in the club's history.

"This year we are already two points ahead of last year despite still being in a relegation fight."
