Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins says the Premier League new boys have had no offers for Ashley Williams and are not willing to sell their star defender.

Reports suggested that Queens Park Rangers had tabled a £2.6m bid for the 26-year-old Wales centre-back.

Jenkins dismissed that, but did reveal Swansea hope to sign Tottenham defender Steven Caulker on a season-long loan.

"We haven't had [any] bid for Ashley Williams... we're not selling Ashley Williams," Jenkins told BBC Wales.

"I think we mustn't forget really that there's a lot of speculation about players like Neil Taylor, Ashley or a few others.

"Agents in this day and age do, rightly or wrongly, get things out in the press, maybe a negotiation tactic to get more wages, bigger contracts - it's just part and parcel isn't it of the Championship and now the Premier League."

Left-back Neil Taylor is a target for Newcastle United, who have triggered the right to speak to the 22-year-old after tabling an undisclosed bid thought to be £1m.

But Jenkins indicated that manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen the Championship play-off winners' squad rather than allow their best players to be cherry-picked by other clubs.

England Under-21 central defender Caulker has impressed on season-long loans at Bristol City in the Championship last season and at League One Yeovil Town the previous year.

The 19-year-old underwent surgery in March on a knee cartilage injury that ended his season early, but earned rave reviews at Ashton Gate after starting 30 matches for Swansea's cross-Severn rivals.

"Steven Caulker, yes, is a player Brendan is interested in bringing in and we're actually speaking to Tottenham about that, and we'll hope to perhaps conclude something this week," Jenkins said.

Spain midfielder Marcos Senna has also been linked with a move to the Liberty Stadium, with the 34-year-old having failed to agree terms on a new deal with Primera Liga side Villarreal.

Jenkins refused to rule out the south Wales club making a bid for the holding midfielder but admitted Senna's likely wage demands might make his signing unlikely.

"Not sure... it's [Senna] a name bandied about and we'll have to see," Jenkins added. "We've got quite a few options we're looking at and perhaps a few other main targets before that really and we're working to try and bring them in as quick as we can.

"There's thing we've got to deal with but I think... it's an exciting thing to deal with and we're really looking forward to the challenge.

"Ashley has been a great signing for us, he's been with us a few years since his Stockport days and he's got the opportunity to play in the Premier League with us.

"I've got no doubts that he's really looking forward to that challenge himself, playing for Swansea City."

Swansea have lost out of contract midfielder Darren Pratley, who announced on Thursday that he was leaving to seek a new "challenge".

The 26-year-old recently denied he had agreed to join Bolton Wanderers but has continued to be linked with the Premier League side.

Dutch winger Cedric van der Gun has been released by Swansea, along with defender Albert Serran and youngsters Kerry Morgan and Jamie Grimes.

But Swansea did break their transfer record this week by signing striker Danny Graham for £3.5m from Watford.

Meanwhile, Swansea have announced they will play a pre-season friendly against Real Betis at the Liberty Stadium on 6 August, with a 1500 BST kick-off.

Like the Swans, the Spanish side have just won promotion to the top flight.
