Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of midfielder Oscar Gobern from Southampton on a two-year deal.

The 20-year-old was out of contract at Saints after turning down the offer of a new one.

Manager Lee Clark told the club website: "Oscar has caught my eye whenever I have seen him play for the young England teams or Southampton.

"He has a cultured left foot and he is very good on the ball, so we're looking forward to working with him."

Gobern, an England under-19 international, made his first-team debut for Southampton in 2008 and had a short spell on loan at MK Dons the following year.

He scored twice in 13 appearances for Saints last season as they won promotion from League One.

The midfielder is Clark's second signing of the summer, following the capture of Calum Woods from Dunfermline.

Clark added: "Oscar has bought into the club and what we are trying to do here.

"He had a number of Championship clubs interested in him and was talking to Southampton about a new deal, but he has seen this club is on an upwards curve and he wants to be a part of it.

"It's fantastic to have Calum and Oscar on board to add to the players we have here already and want to keep. They can only improve us."
