Swindon midfielder Simon Ferry has revealed he nearly quit the club after falling out of favour with former manager Paul Hart.

Hart took over from Danny Wilson in March and Ferry, 23, played just two games during his short tenure, despite being a regular earlier in the season.

"There's no worse feeling than sitting and watching the boys getting beaten," Ferry told BBC Wiltshire.

"I thought if I'm sat in the stands I don't want to be here."

He continued: "Last year was so disappointing, for the team and from a personal point of view. When the team was doing so bad I wanted to be there to help them.

"Hart played me in his last game but other then that he never really played me at all and I was a bit worried."

Ferry first arrived at the County Ground on loan from Celtic and made 46 appearances in the 2009/10 season.

He then joined on a permanent three-year deal and featured in 21 games before Hart's arrival.

Ferry is now looking forward to life under new manager Paolo di Canio.

"I think everyone wants to wipe the slate clean so it's up to me and the other boys to impress Paolo and get ourselves in the team," he said.

"I think we've all got to go back to the start again and I think a lot of discipline has been installed and it's probably what the team needed."
