Huddersfield Town sign Liam Cooper from Hull City

Hull City centre-back Liam Cooper has joined Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old has played for Hull in the Premier League and had a spell on loan at Carlisle last season.

Cooper told BBC Radio Leeds: "When a club like Huddersfield are willing to take you, it's an opportunity I wasn't willing to reject.

"The manager said we're going to have a good go this year so hopefully we can push for the automatic places."

"It's a big squad and competition is brilliant. There's no room for complacency and football is every man for himself when you're trying to get in the team.

"I've got to put in some good performances in pre-season and hopefully come the first game of the season I'll be in that team and can keep my place."

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark told the club website: "We have found it really hard to find a quality left-sided centre-half since I've been here.

"Peter Clarke has done terrifically on that side but Liam would give us that bit of balance."

He continued: "As well as being a very aggressive boy with excellent reading of the game, Liam brings a bit of extra pace and mobility to the centre-back area."

Cooper, a Scotland Under-19 international, made his debut for Hull in the Carling Cup in August 2008, aged just 16.

He made his Premier League debut the following season and went on to play twice in the top flight.

He started Hull's first three games of last season before joining Carlisle on loan, where he made six appearances, including one against Huddersfield.

"[Hull manager] Nigel Pearson rates him very highly and I understand why," Clark said.

"I already had my own thoughts on him following our scouting process and having seen him play against us for Carlisle, but his recommendation sealed the deal."

It is Huddersfield's second signing in as many days after the capture of Tommy Miller on Thursday.
