Swansea target return of Middlesbrough's Marvin Emnes

Swansea City hope to bring Middlesbrough striker Marvin Emnes back to the Liberty Stadium permanently.

The Dutchman scored twice in five games for the Swans on loan last season, including a famous winner in their Welsh derby victory at Cardiff City.

Emnes was recalled by Boro in November but Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has remained a fan of the 23-year-old.

"There have been discussions with Boro. They're on-going and the chairman will deal with that," said Rodgers.

"His move here probably reignited his career in Britain. It wasn't really happening for him at Middlesbrough and he loved it at Swansea.

"Then he obviously gone back there and became a key player for them.

"There's no doubt he's a talent but at the moment he's a Middlesbrough player and that's where it's at."

Swansea have also been linked with a move for another former striker in Ipswich's Jason Scotland.

The Trinidad and Tobago international scored 53 goals in 105 appearances at Swansea during Roberto Martinez's reign.

Scotland then followed Martinez to Wigan in a £2m deal but struggled to make an impact and was allowed to join the Tractor Boys.

The 32-year-old could be surplus to requirements at Portman Road, with Michael Chopra, Nathan Ellington and Tamas Priskin contesting the striking places, and might be persuaded to return to his former happy hunting ground at Swansea.

However, hopes of enticing Iceland and former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen appear to be over, with West Ham United emerging as favourites to sign the free agent.

Swansea have also made a bid of £1.5m for Newcastle midfielder Wayne Routledge, as Rodgers continues to strengthen ahead of Swansea's televised Premier League debut at Manchester City on 15 August.

Middlesbrough manger Tony Mowbray is keen to extend Emnes' contract, as the former Netherlands Under-21 international's deal runs out at the end of next season.
