Torquay United have signed striker Taiwo Atieno on a one-year-deal following a trial at Plainmoor.

The 25-year-old former Stevenage player was offered a contract by Gulls boss Martin Ling after scoring twice for the side in pre-season.

Ling told BBC Radio Devon that he hopes Atieno will be the final player to join the Gulls this summer.

"We've got 22 under contract and the Taiwo deal. That's my shopping done for the summer," Ling said.

"He's impressed us while he's been here and we've put in a contract that we feel is right."

Kenya international Atieno will be the ninth player to join the Gulls under Ling's tenure.

"I came here for a two-week trial but I did know a lot about Torquay," said Atieno. "I obviously saw them play in the play-off final against my old club Stevenage.

"I knew that I could do a job on trial and I felt comfortable with the lads here, who all like to pass the ball.

"I want to keep working hard and score as many goals as I can for the team. We want to emulate the success from last season and go further."
