Ibrahima Sonko eager to move back to Reading

Sonko played just 17 times for Stoke

Defender Ibrahima Sonko says he is eager to re-sign for Reading after featuring for the side while on trial.

The 30-year-old Senegal international left Stoke this summer after just seven league starts in two years.

Sonko, who made 136 appearances for the Royals between 2004 and 2008, came on in the second half in Reading's pre-season friendly against Northampton.

He told BBC Berkshire, external: "I'm happy to be here, to see all the fans and the players again."

The ex-Brentford trainee added: "Wearing blue and being a Royal again is great - it's a good feeling.

"I'm playing well and still have that hunger to be at the top and I want to do it with Reading.

"Hopefully, I'll get longer on the pitch and be able to show [manager] Brian McDermott I can work hard and do more."

McDermott had earlier told the club website:, external "I've spoken to Ibrahima and he's very keen to train with us so we will see where it leads us."

The Royals' boss also said that he was hopeful of signing another centre-back, adding: "We're working hard to conclude another deal that has been our focus for some time."
