Scott Malone opens the scoring at Dean Court with a 25-yard shot

Anthony Gerrard has given Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay an injury worry as he was forced off with concussion in a 2-1 pre-season defeat at Bournemouth.

The centre-back suffered a blow to the head after a clash with striker Michael Symes in the first minute and Gerrard had to be replaced by Dekel Keinan.

A 25-yard Scott Malone strike gave the hosts an early lead before Steve Lovell curled in a second after half-time.

Andrew Taylor's first Cardiff goal was a consolation just before the hour.

But Mackay's main post-match concern was Gerrard's health as the Cardiff manager revealed: "He had quite bad concussion and really didn't remember anything up until about five minutes ago.

"It was in the first minute and the guy led with the elbow and cut him on the top of head. But he'll be fine for Saturday."

Gerrard will miss Tuesday's friendly at Yeovil but the 25-year-old is set to be available for Saturday's home game with Italian side Parma.

Mackay felt his side were "good in patches" at Bournemouth but "could have been much better in patches" as he admitted: "We gave the ball away too often and too easily and that sharpness is coming but it is not there yet."

However, he did praise midfielder Filip Kiss as the Slovakian under-21 captain made his Cardiff debut at Dean Court following his season-long loan move from Slovan Bratislava.

"On Tuesday night he played in Kazakhstan for Slovan Bratislava," pointed out Mackay.

"So considering how far away that is, the journey he made to get here and how little training he has done in the last couple of days I was delighted with him as he was very comfortable on the ball and not frightened to put a tackle in."
