Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed they have rejected an offer from an unnamed club for winger George Boyd.

Stories appeared over the weekend linking Boyd, who is contracted until 2013, with a move to Burnley.

Writing on social networking site Twitter, MacAnthony said: "We have turned down a bid but nothing new to be honest so not really a story.

"No offer accepted and no bid even near my value."

Posh are unlikely to want to part with Boyd having already lost last season's top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith to Brighton.

The 25-year-old played in Saturday's 2-1 win at Gillingham, where former Germany international Marco Engelhardt turned out in defence.

The former Bundesliga player is on trial at London Road with a view to providing cover in defence.

"He did fine at left-back and can also play in midfield. It was difficult for him because it wasn't one of our better performances," boss Darren Ferguson said.

"Left-back is a problem for us as Grant Basey is out injured and currently we've only got young Nathan Ralph and Scott Griffiths."

Junior Konadu and Danny Uchechi have left the club after failing to impress during their trial spells.

Striker David Ball is a doubt for Saturday's opening Championship fixture against Crystal Palace with a twisted ankle.

Meanwhile, Preston have confirmed they have turned down an offer from Posh for midfielder Paul Coutts.

The 23-year-old was signed by Darren Ferguson during his first spell at London Road.

"In many ways it was a cheeky offer as it was less than we paid them, but in any case we told them that we were not interested under any circumstances," Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay said.

"Paul is still young, with lots of improvement to come and we are not prepared to strip the side of all our quality players."
