Rangers are still in the chase to sign £2m-rated Goodwillie

Rangers manager Ally McCoist remains interested in signing Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

United, who value Goodwillie at £2m, have already rejected an offer from their SPL rivals.

But McCoist said he may return with another bid before the transfer window closes.

"We've got money to spend and, if we feel the deal is right for ourselves, then we will do it," he said.

United boss Peter Houston has expressed concerns about a switch to Glasgow, saying he would prefer to see the player move south of the border.

But McCoist believes those problems are not insurmountable.

"Peter believes, rightly or wrongly, that he would get less hassle off the park down south. I fully appreciate where he is coming from," McCoist said.

"I've got a different hat on and he is the type of player we would like.

"Although it's a different thing entirely playing for the Old Firm, with the right guidance, any player can hopefully handle it.

"It is a whole new experience playing for the Old Firm but we feel that we've got education and experience within our management team, and the team itself, to

help any player who comes into the club."

Defender Dorin Goian is expected to make his debut against St Johnstone.

The 30-year-old Romanian, who signed from Palermo for an undisclosed fee, is expected to replace the injured David Weir in Saturday's SPL clash at McDiarmid Park.

Weir was withdrawn during the Champions League qualifying first leg defeat by Malmo with a hamstring injury and is doubtful for the return leg in Sweden.

McCoist also revealed he may bid again for Anderlecht's Roland Juhasz and Den Haag's Wesley Verhoek.
