Dundee United line up replacements for David Goodwillie

Reinforcements are already on their way to Dundee United in anticipation of David Goodwillie's departure.

The striker is poised to join Blackburn for £2.8m, with Rangers still interested in the 22-year-old.

And, after United's 1-0 win over Hearts, manager Peter Houston told BBC Scotland: "I am just interested in making sure that he moves on now.

"I've got a couple of players lined up to come up next week and hopefully we can get a couple nailed down."

Houston realises that hard-up United will not be able to give much of the transfer fee for new players.

"We will get Davie's wages for starters," he said. "I've got a couple of players lined up to come up next week and hopefully we can get a couple nailed down.

"We need another striker and I've said all along saying that I need another centre-back - and I will try to push my luck and get another one.

"It certainly won't be buying any players, but we do have targets and, if we can have more strength in depth, we will do okay.

"Because simply, when you see our squad, we have a very young bench and I want to bring in a couple of players who can come in an enhance the squad."

One of the young players, 19-year-old midfielder Scott Allan, was praised by Houston for an impressive first-team debut at Tynecastle.

"We know he's got the football ability," said the United boss. "We have said that for a number of years now through the youth ranks.

"Scottie's been unlucky with injuries. He broke his ankle when he might have come through last year.

"He's the type of boy who will take the ball under pressure, doesn't panic on the ball - a lovely football player - and he is certainly one for the future and was excellent."

Houston was delighted with the overall team performance in game settled by Jon Daly's 38th-minute header.

"We had to weather the storm for spells in the first half," the manager admitted, saying that former United left-back Danny Grainger had given him food for thought.

"I thought Hearts were really good and we had to change our shape a wee bit.

"We tried to come here positive and play with two strikers, but with Grainger getting forward on that side, it was causing us problems.

"But we created good cchances in the first half when you look at Jon Daly's volley that was tipped over the bar - a world class save - and I thought it might have been a penalty kick that John Rankin has hit the bar from.

"To come to Tynecastle and get three points is magic."
