Ipswich Town downbeat on Ryan Shotton deal

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has said a potential deal for a Premier League defender, believed to be Stoke's Ryan Shotton, has fallen through.
Shotton, a 22-year-old centre-half, featured as a late substitute in the Potters' draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
"On Thursday we spoke to the player and the club, and I see Sunday he was in the squad in the Premier League," Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk, external.
"He came on so it's probably not [happening] now, no."
Jewell, whose desire for a centre-half was galvanized by an injury to Ivar Ingimarsson last week, joked it "wouldn't take people long" to work out who the target was.
The Town boss expects Icelander Ingimarsson to be out for at least another three weeks after he tore a hamstring muscle in training.
But Jewell's transfer targets are not limited to a new defender.
"I'll be looking for a goalkeeper, because that will be an area of concern if David Stockdale gets injured, at least one central defender, another wide player and a striker," he said.
"And maybe within that another utility player. It's an ongoing building programme.
"We've brought six or seven new faces in and I want new vibrant faces added to our experience."
Jewell is also looking to hold talks with midfielder Grant Leadbitter over a new deal at Portman Road, after confirming the club had rejected an approach from Championship rivals Portsmouth.
"I've spoken to Grant about [a contract] on numerous occasions, we don't want it to drag on like last season," said Jewell.
"Hopefully we can give Grant what he's looking for and move on.
"If we can't agree something then something might have to be done, but hat's football, we're big boys."
