Bullard impressed during a 16-game loan spell at Ipswich last season

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has made an approach for Jimmy Bullard, but acknowledged that the midfielder is attracting Premier League interest.

Bullard, 32, a former Ipswich loan signing, could have his Hull deal terminated after being suspended for an alleged breach of discipline.

Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk: "He says he's got a couple of Premier League teams that are showing interest.

"But I told him I am very keen and he said he will consider us," he added.

Bullard scored five goals in 16 games during a loan spell at Portman Road last season.

Jewell went on to say that the former Wigan man, who has the right to appeal his dismissal by the Tigers, had been surprised by the turn of events.

"He said it was a shock to the system," said the Town boss. "I don't know what's happened, but I said, 'make sure you keep us informed'.

"If he goes to a Premier League team we won't be able to compete. But we'd like to bring him here."

Meanwhile, Ipswich's hunt for a central defender continues, with Jewell confirming he had enquired about West Brom's out-of-favour Spaniard Pablo Ibanez.

"It's unbelievable the amount of centre-halves we've asked about," he explained.

"We've asked about the lad Ibanez at West Brom, who I'm only mentioning because it was in the newspaper this morning.

"There's a couple that haven't come out but we're working tirelessly behind the scenes, but it's proving very difficult.

"We will get somebody in, don't worry about that."
