Chesterfield have signed Middlesbrough left-back Jonathan Grounds on a month-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old has struggled to win a place at Boro and has not featured for the first team this season.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Tees: "He needs to go and play some football. We'll see how he gets on and what happens after that."

Meanwhile midfielder Derek Niven is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks with ankle ligament damage.
