Midfielder Jonathan Hogg said his desire to establish himself as a first team player was behind his move from Aston Villa to Watford.
The 22-year-old has arrived at Vicarage Road for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal.
"I'm at the stage of my career now where I need to be playing games," Hogg told BBC Three Counties Radio, external.
"I wanted to bring my family with me, I wanted to settle down."
Hogg looked to have established himself at Villa, after making five Premier League appearances at the start of last season, but finished the campaign on loan at Portsmouth, external.
He is already one game into his Hornets career, playing the full 90 minutes of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City.
"It was a lively start against Blues, Villa's rivals, so it had a bit more to it," he added.
"I thought we did really well, we were 2-1 behind and showed a lot of character to come back and draw two each.
"We've got a great bunch of lads here, I don't know them as well as I should do, but the more I play the more I'll get to know what they do.
"We'll definitely be looking up the table in the next couple of fixtures."
