Scunthorpe United have signed French midfielder Damien Mozika from Bury and taken Everton reserve defender Shane Duffy on a one-month loan.
Iron boss Alan Knill worked with Mozika, 24, while in charge at Gigg Lane and has signed him for an undisclosed six-figure fee.
Mozika has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with an option for a further year.
Duffy, 19, had life-saving surgery after suffering a severed artery near his liver in 2010.
A Republic of Ireland U21 international, he made two Europa League appearances for Everton in 2009, and spent part of last season on loan at Burnley.
Mozika featured 37 times for Bury following his arrival from Iranian side Tarbiat Yazd in August 2010.
